LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior Bojan Szumanski put the cap on his Red Raider tennis career as he was named to the CoSIDA and ESPN The Magazine 2008 Academic All-American men's at-large third team today. Szumanski is one of only two players in the men's tennis program history to receive the honor, the only player to receive it twice in their career.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) is responsible for selecting recipients to every Academic All-America team. There are 25 sports eligible in the at-large ballot, and each school can nominate up to three student-athletes per gender. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be an active participant with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for their career.

Szumanski is undisputedly one of the top collegiate tennis players to come out of Tech to date. He ended his career ranked No. 36 in singles, and has been nationally ranked for three straight seasons, two within the ITA's top 25. He was also a member of the19th-ranked doubles duo with teammate Christian Rojmar, playing in Tech's No. 1 doubles spot the past two seasons.

Also playing in the top singles position for the Red Raiders for the past two seasons, Szumanski sits in the record books in six categories and will go down as Texas Tech's all-time winningest singles and doubles player. He ended his collegiate campaign with a 90-48 career singles record, and a career doubles record of 61-44.

The Opole, Poland native's resume also includes a two-time Academic All-American, three-time All-Big 12 singles honoree, two-time All-Big 12 doubles with Rojmar, three-time Academic All-Big 12, and three-time first team Academic All-District VI. In addition he is the only player in program history to have participated in the NCAA Team and Individual Championships three times.
