RED RAIDER CLUB : About the Red Raider Club
[Purpose]  [History]  [Mission]  [Calendar]  [Contact Us]

PURPOSE
The purpose of the Red Raider Club is to serve as the principal fundraising arm of Texas Tech Athletics. The Red Raider Club provides a comprehensive Annual Giving program to support scholarships for student-athletes in all sports under Texas Tech Athletics. In addition, the organization raises funds for athletic facilities, endowments, and special projects as needed.

Your annual donation to the Red Raider Club directly supports more than 250 scholarship student-athletes in 17 different sports. Your support also allows Texas Tech to build and maintain a first class athletic program that can compete at the highest levels within the Big 12 Conference and NCAA.

The Red Raider Club helps to ensure that individual student-athletes thrive academically. At Texas Tech, we recognize that athletic achievement is important, but the ultimate goal is for our student-athletes to earn a degree in their chosen field of study.

Financial support from Red Raider Club members is the cornerstone of Texas Tech Athletics because of the important role that the Red Raider Club plays in the life of the university and in the lives of so many young people. Your support is absolutely critical to the success of our entire athletics program as well as each individual student-athlete.

Your donation to the Red Raider Scholarship Fund will earn you a membership in the Red Raider Club.

HISTORY OF THE RED RAIDER CLUB
The Red Raider Club has helped sustain Texas Tech Athletics since 1925.

Originally know as the Matador Club, the Red Raider Club was founded to encourage athletic excellence at Tech. This excerpt from the January 31, 1926 Lubbock Avalanche Journal describes the beginnings of the Red Raider Club.

"The Matador Club...was organized at the opening of the college term to support college athletics and to develop close contact between the people of the plains and the college students and faculty members, in order that all athletic programs may be given the whole-hearted support of everyone."

The article refers to the first fund drive and its $3,700 goal. The Matador Club called on the people of Lubbock and the surrounding areas to meet specific expenses.

Over time, our name has changed and our base of support stretched nationwide. Scholarships have become our primary focus; where as the red Raider Club directly supports more than 250 scholarship student-athletes in 17 sports. Obviously, $3,700 does not go as far as it used to. However, the original spirit of active support for Texas Tech Athletics lives on at the Red Raider Club.

Today, the Red Raider Club operates directly under the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. In addition, the Red Raider Club is part of Texas Tech Foundation, the official 501 (c)(3) organization for Texas Tech University System. Annual Donors to the Red Raider Club now contribute around $4 million to academic scholarships for Student-athletes and the need continually grows from year to year.
